wanton thoughts

hello adoring fans. i have grown tired of having to be dishonest in order to keep up a reputation. i need somewhere and/or someone to share my honest thoughts and opinions with. i’ll start with something simple;

socialism is bad. communism is worse. but if you believe in either of them, more power to you. i will respect you just the same, probably more so because of your honesty and integrity.

capitalism is fine (with some government regulation decided by input from an educated public). corporatism is awful. when people denounce capitalism (eat the rich and whatnot) they generally aren’t talking about their uncle’s small-town barbecue place; they’re talking about jeff bezos mistreating employees, disney knowing about sexual predators in their staff and choosing to fire whoever is in twitter drama instead, and mcdonalds workers struggling to pay enough to live.

quick side note; the minimum wage hasn’t grown with inflation. additionally, living today costs far more than it used to. university and other institution’s prices have skyrocketed, and living in a modern world requires more expenses than what it used to. you need a car, and a phone that lasts 2 years, and internet, and all sorts of insurance, and meds, in addition to normal expenses like food and rent. ironically, the american ideals of individualism that led to our current non-collectivist economic system has only destroyed that which makes us individuals. the majority of americans have to put up a facade that they enjoy their work, and bend over backwards to keep their job, and they go home miserable, in order to benefit some abstract idea of a technological utopia. our world has never been better, but the individual has never been more depressed and purposeless.

fun fact; it’s extremely likely that the happiest period of human history happened before agriculture was invented. hunter-gatherers had community, more free time, and a sense of purpose that was just a part of their lifestyle. similarly, european peasants in the “dark ages” generally had a far more balanced and nutritious diet than your average human today (which is either subsistent on processed garbage and addictive substances, or is starving). not to mention a more consistent sleep schedule, exercise, less stress, and far better mental health.

we need to stop focusing on ideas of creating a utopia, of progressing as rapidly as possible, and of sacrificing for a society that seems to hate both you and itself. people need to start feeling like they belong to a community, have real control over their lives, can follow their passions without becoming homeless, and can believe and say what they want without fear of censorship, or worse, social repercussions (not being ironic here, america has two sets of belief systems, and if you stray from either of them then not only are you wrong and stupid, but also evil and not worth respect or even common decency.)

that’s all folk
